Free Museum Admission for Military & Veterans

Updated 2026-10-02 · Free · No sign-up

18 museums admit military members and veterans free every day — no free-day calendar needed, just the right ID. The catch is the fine print: some cover veterans and retirees, some only active duty, a few add first responders — and several more are free only in summer or on military holidays. Every row comes from the institution's own admission page (checked 2026-10-02).

Some resident free days explicitly extend to active-duty military regardless of address: Fleet Science Center (San Diego) — Active-duty military (military ID) on the first-Tuesday Residents' Free Day; San Diego Natural History Museum (The Nat) (San Diego) — Active military and dependents on the first-Tuesday Residents Free Day.

Discounts that get mistaken for free

These offer a reduced price, not free entry — listed so the difference is clear before you get to the desk: California Academy of Sciences (San Francisco) — $3 off for active military; Woodland Park Zoo (Seattle) — $3 off for up to 6 guests with military ID; Louisiana State Museum (New Orleans) — $2 off for military with ID; Sacramento History Museum (Sacramento) — $2 off for military; ZooTampa (Tampa) — $4 off for military and veterans.

Routes that work for everyone

If your ID doesn't qualify somewhere, the general-public routes still apply: Museums for All (SNAP EBT card plus photo ID, up to four people, free to $5), Museums on Us (Bank of America cardholders, first full weekend monthly), a library museum pass, or a reciprocal membership through the reciprocity lookup. And always-free museums need no ID at all.
